Opoku's House

Built for and with a local farmer and builder, Opoku, this building is the culmination of cultural exchange.  With a $20 material budget, the home is affordable; with its focus on creating exterior covered space responds to the outdoor communal lifestyle of the village; its design for passive cooling and ventilation keep cool and comfortable in the afternoon heat.  The house is a new typology for the region, but is based on ancient principles and construction methods.  It is meant to show what is possible with materials that are free and accessible.
